Thornton YMCA is more than just a sports centre, it is a facility that offers individuals and groups the opportunity to participate in a range of physical activities as well as being a place to socialise and enjoy physical and mental wellbeing.

Our building caters for mainstream activities such as football, badminton and squash and our gym is a great place to workout, but we also embrace new ideas and strive to continue to provide a wide range of activities; from body combat and yoga to our boxing room offering customers the opportunity to exercise using professional boxing equipment including speedballs, a medicine ball, an angle bag and punch bags. The room is open daily for casual use and boxing circuit classes are also on offer.

The centre also hosts large sports events and fairs and recently was the venue for the VETTS Northern Masters Table-Tennis Championships.

After your activity come and relax and rejuvenate while watching live sport in our modern bar open six nights a week (Thursdays until midnight), afternoons on Saturdays throughout the rugby season and selected Sundays for live Premiership fixtures. The 100 person capacity bar and function area is also the ideal venue for functions and special events including birthday parties, Christenings and Anniversaries with a late licence available on Fridays and Saturdays.

We provide a range of activities for children and young people from our Creepy Crawlies parent and toddler sessions to our holiday activity sessions catering for 6 to 14 year olds. We provide an ongoing programme of Sports Academy coaching sessions for a variety of ages and disciplines including gymnastics, netball, squash, multi-sports and basketball and are looking for teams to launch a junior five-a-side league on a Saturday night. 

Thornton YMCA can also provide services within the local community and is currently working with a local primary school to deliver a before school club, leading activities and games whilst promoting healthy lifestyles through physical activities.
