YMCA - Flyde Coast

Homelessness Awareness

The term “homelessness” covers a wide range of circumstances from sleeping on the streets, through families living in bed and breakfast accommodation, to people being without a permanent home of their own.

Young ManThe vast majority of people in housing need are actually families or single people who are not literally on the street, but living with relatives and friends or in temporary accommodation.

Fylde Coast YMCA has been closely involved in the development and implementation of our local homelessness strategy. With many years experience of working with young people in housing need, the YMCA has been able to bring our expertise into the planning process, as well as providing frontline services that can help bring the strategy to life.

As well as YMCA staff, young people who have been living at the YMCA have also been involved in this process.  Meaningful involvement of young people in decisions that affect their lives is a core component of the YMCA’s approach.

We deliver a number of homelessness awareness sessions in local schools and colleges across the Fylde Coast.
