YMCA - Flyde Coast

George Williams House is named after the founding member of the YMCA and provides temporary, supported accommodation for homeless young people and families. George Williams House comprises of 6 flats for young people aged 16-17 years old and 9 flats for families with up to three children.

The lack of immediate housing in the area had been widely reported and George Williams House was built to help meet this need and help reduce the high use of B&B’s to accommodate homeless people. The flats are self contained, with their own bathroom and cooking facilities. Facilities on site include a laundry, counselling room and meeting/training room.

George Williams House is more than ‘just a roof’ and it is our aim to support residents to help themselves deal with their immediate problems and secure longer term accommodation. Support Officers and Support Workers are available to offer help to all residents and it is a condition of their license agreement that they engage in accessing the support provided.

“The YMCA gave me the support I missed at home without taking away my independence. Eight Years on I am now living in my own house with a friend I met while I was living in the YMCA. I have also trained as a support officer with the YMCA and now get the opportunity to offer other people support.”
